We offer a variety of presentations in various formats
including speaker presentations, author days, video programming and
telescoping observations of the heavens. Topics include astronomy,
geology, planetary science, weather and space science.
Meet Our Speakers
Antarctic Exploration
Dr. Paul Sipiera has been a professor of astronomy and geology at
William Rainey Harper College for the past 27 years. His main research
interest is in studying meteorites. His interest has lead him to some
very interesting and extreme fields such as Antarctica, which he has
visited seven times. Dr. Sipiera is also a free-lance writer
for publications such as Meteorite Magazine and Popular Science, and
a contributor to numerous scientific journals. He has written over
29 non-fiction books for children. His latest book, Ernest Shackleton:
A Life of Antarctic Exploration , is piece on exploration of Antarctica
and a biography on one of its first pioneers.
Dr. Sipiera is available for
book signing and lectures where he can convey his experiences as a
scientist and explorer.
Meteorites: Rocks From
Heaven
Kevin Cole is a researcher with the Planetary Studies Foundation.
For the past three years, Mr. Cole has been establishing a meteorite
research lab. This research has resulted in the analysis and classification
of nearly forty meteorite specimens. Prior to joining PSF, Kevin was
a staff scientist with the Space science Division of Science Application
International Corporation. During his tenure at SAIC, Mr. Cole participated
in numerous NASA sponsored contracts focusing on advanced planetary
mission planning. In 1998 he received a fellowship award from NASA/JPL
to participate in the Galileo Europa mission educational outreach
program. During his career of over 26 years, Kevin has authored nearly
thirty professional papers and NASA reports.

Starlab: Bringing the Heavens
To You

Diane Sipiera is a former teacher who now enjoys bringing planetary
science to learners in special venues. She is currently the Education
Director at the Planetary Studies Foundation. She manages and operates
Starlab, a mobile planetarium that she presents
to schools in various districts. Aside from her duties at PSF, Mrs.
Sipiera is a children's science book author.
With her teaching experience
in the classroom, as well as her open and friendly demeanor, Diane
is wonderful science presenter for children at schools, libraries,
and camps.
