This book is an interesting short biography of the Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton from the point of view of a modern Antarctic explorer. The book covers Shackleton's early years, his involvement with Scott's expedition and his own attempt to reach the South Pole, the Endurance expedition, and the Shackleton legacy. Forward by Apollo 13 commander Captain James A. Lovell.

With a donation of $200, we will send you a signed copy of A Traveler's Guide to Mars by William Hartmann. This book revitalizes the Red Planet, leaving readers with the urge to don a spacesuit and take a long trip. With the look and heft of a guide to someplace you might actually go, the book presents Mars as a place of canyons and volcanoes, mesas, and barren plains, not that dissimilar from parts of Earth. Author William K. Hartmann, who participated in the Mars Global Surveyor mission, uses all the photos and data collected by scientists in decades of research to give a thorough, yet not boring, overview of the planet.

With a donation of $300, we will send you an autographed copy of The Way of the Explorer by Apollo XIV astronaut, Dr. Edgar Mitchell. This book provides an interesting look into space, science and the state of conscience. He offers us a tour of Western thought from Aristotle to Newton, arguing that intuition and science were divorced until the advent of Einstein and quantum physics. We hear a lot about synchronicity, left and right brain, and the concept that psychic events are quantum exchanges in the brain that link us with the larger world.
